Blue Jeans Sabbath

First Saturday of each Month , After 2nd Service
Join us for our monthly community service day where we wear our blue jeans to church and lend a hand in our local community on Sabbath, December 1. We will meet in the “Big Room” for lunch right after second service so don’t forget to bring your sac lunch. Several opportunities will be available to assit people in our community and help us in our learning to love well.

The opportunities available this Saturday are:

Happy 4th. I hope you have a day of fun and fireworks planned. And then, when all the festivities are over, and the smoke from the fire works has cleared out of the air, take some time to think about which Blue Jean Sabbath activity you'll want to be part of this Saturday, July 5. We have several opportunities, and some different times during the day so something will fit into your schedule. Most opportunities will be after church, but this week we'll be going to the Norton House at 8:30 am to beat the heat.

Below is a description of all the service opportunities. There will be sign up sheets in the church foyer during church where you can also get more information. Bring a sac lunch to eat in the Big Room and then join us as we put God's love into action.

NORTON HOUSE
Have breakfast provided by Panera's with the neighborhood kids then join as we sing songs and tell stories from the Bible. If you have an instrument bring it. Remember that we'll be meeting there at 8:30 am. Directions to the Norton House from the church are:

Take the 10 freeway east
Take Tippecanoe Ave. north past Costco and over the Santa Ana River
Turn left at Central
Left at Clevenger
Left on Norman. 948 Norman Road.

If you have any questions call Ron Greybill 909.910.9339

LOMA LINDA E. CAMPUS
The E. Campus is a long term rehab hospital. Work with patients to create fun, patriotic gifts.

LINDA VALLEY CARE CENTER
We'll be singing some of the residences favorite old hymns and visiting with them. This group always looks forward to our visits.

READING WITH KIDS AT VICTORIA ELEMENTARY
Victoria Elementary is a local school in a very financially under-resourced area. We are going to find a shady spot and read books with the neighborhood kids. If you have a favorite children's book please bring it to read to the kids.

SALVATION ARMY
This is a shelter that provides a place for homeless families to sleep, however, on Saturdays the residence have to leave at 7:00 am and can't return until evening. We want to go and entertain them for a couple hours with some stories, plays, water games and popsicles. And also, thanks to many of your generous donations, we'll be handing out bags to everyone there with tooth paste and brushes, socks, soap, wash cloths, deodorant, granola bars, and also some gift bags for the kids.

Looking forward to serving with you.

For info and directions on this Sunday's Work Bee at "The Gardens," LLUMC's after-school site in San Bernardino, go to www.healthycities.com --a link is on the homepage.

Bring a water bottle and gloves if you have them. Wear closed-toed shoes that can get dusty. If you have a pickup and can bring a wheelborrow, that might be helpful too.  Carpentery skills and tools will be helpful. Rakes and shovels too. We'll be doing some neighborhood clean-up as well as working on the after-school site.

Include your digital camera and take a few pictures (include smiling faces whenever you can), email a few of the best ones to me with a little information about what church or program the volunteers are from.

We suspect we'll have enough volunteers that we can begin thinking about dividing into four teams--one of which would come the first Sunday of the month, another the second Sunday, another the third Sunday, and another the fourth Sunday.  (we'll take the 5th Sunday off!)  Individuals, families, classes, or groups from churches could elect to come once a month or once every two months.

That way there will be more opportunity to interact with the children, youth, and even the adults of the neighborhood--to get acquainted, to work shoulder to shoulder, and to empower each other to maximize the gifts and talents each person enjoys.

See you Sunday!  My cell phone will be on.

Warm regards,
Ron
